A Mini Boston Vacation (& My First Blogger Award!)

This past weekend, I had an amazing mini vacation in Boston. It was exactly what I needed and the perfect almost end to summer!

I haven’t been back to Boston since February and it was a very nostalgic trip. I got to see some old friends and spent some quality time with the Turk.

Boston is such a beautiful city. This weekend, we had clear blue skies and great weather. I got to enjoy the Boston I know and love in my old neighborhood, but also experience a new side of Boston. On Saturday, we went to Castle Island and relaxed on the beach (a Boston first for me)! It doesn’t get better than that! I forgot how much I love the water – gotta get myself to the Cape soon!!

And as the foodies that we are, the Turk and I had some amazing meals!

We had to-die for barbecue at one of my favorite restaurants in Boston, Sweet Cheeks! I am drooling just thinking about this meal – a big pitcher of beer, fried green tomatoes as an app, a bucket of the most amazing biscuits, and a brisket sandwich on Texas toast with Mac and cheese and coleslaw! I’m in heaven!

And we made mushroom risotto (more about risotto later this week) as is tradition when we hang out!

And the Turk shared some Turkish favorites with me – baklava straight from Istanbul, which I loved, and a Turkish breakfast, sucuklu yumurta, with a side of tomatoes and a selection of Turkish cheeses.

Breakfast in Bed(stuy) / Boston Vacation

(And not pictured — we had Mexican at El Pelon, another local favorite; I got my beloved breakfast burrito from Boloco, another Boston institution; awesome burgers at Sullivan’s on Castle Island; and an amazing pasta dish the Turk whipped up spontaneously! No one can say that we don’t eat well in each other’s company!)

It’s always hard to leave Boston, especially after having such a gorgeous and relaxing weekend, but I have to remember I have a great life in New York!

Feeling inspired after such a great weekend, you may notice my URL, blog name and site design has changed! It’s been a long time coming and something I’ve been pondering for a while. Honestly, I’m still trying to figure out who I am as a blogger and where I want this blog to go. But I think I’m on the right track!

I may not be ditching my culinary exploits for purely breakfast fare, but as I think of it, I’ll have breakfast in BedStuy but who knows where I’ll end up for dinner?

And community is a big part of what I want this blog to me — my Bed Stuy community which I hope to interact with by showing you my favorite brunch places; the international food community as I work my way around the globe through food; and even the community of (food) bloggers I hope to continue to network with!

And speaking of community, this past weekend I was also nominated for a Liebster Award, which is given to rising bloggers who have less than 200 followers, by fellow blogger Catching Zee. I have been enjoying her blog immensely. She’s also a recent college grad and navigating the ups and downs of the real world as well! Check out her other nominations over here! She nominated nine other blogs that I’m excited to start reading!

Now this blog award may not be in the big leagues but it still makes me smile that I’m nominated and glad to be in such good company with my fellow nominees (can you guess I’ve been practicing my Oscar speech for years?!). But anyway, I love the opportunity to connect with other bloggers in anyway!

Liebster Rules:

1. You must link back the person who nominated you. (*Done and done!).

2. You must answer the 10 questions given to you by the nominee before you.

  • Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In ten years, I’ll be 33… Yikes! I would hope that I am happy, doing what I love and surrounded by friends and family. I would love to still be living in New York and working in travel and food media… But who knows? A family?  A husband? A lot can change in 10 years…

  • What is the most awkward thing that has happened to you in the last week?

I called my cable company the other day and spoke to about ten different people about one issue. In giving my address and street name, which is a mouthful, every single person made some weird comment about it… One guy even commented his dad happens to live on my street ha!

  • Weirdest habit? Don’t be shy!

I honestly have no idea! Anyone who knows me want to weigh in? (In a nice way of course!)

  • Do you like your handwriting?

I think my handwriting isn’t very feminine and I dislike it. Sometimes I see something I’ve hand written and think, what man wrote that? JK but honestly, if I could change my handwriting I would!

  • Two truths and a lie.  Ready, go.

I hate cucumbers. I can speak conversational Spanish. I am horrible at basic math.

  • Last song you listened to?

I wrote this answers on my commute… I was listening to Blood by the Middle East when I got to this song! A lovely, lovely song.

  • What’s your computer background picture right now?

It’s a picture of Paris and Notre Dame.

  • Favorite childhood memory?

Lately I’ve been thinking about the summers I used to spend on cape cod. Some of my favorite memories are walking in low tide out in the beach catching hermit crabs or roasting marshmallows out on the beach over a big campfire.

  • Do you like your name? If you could, would you change it?

I love my name and think its very unique, but it does cause me a lot of grief. Everyone I meet for the first time thinks my name is pronounced “Katie.” I’m used to it by now, but it is amazing when someone knows the correct way to say my name on the first go… I tend to like those people more 🙂

  • Do you approach your crush, or wait for them to approach you?

When I was younger, I would have waited but at least point, life is too short to not go after what you want!

3. You must nominate 10 of your favorite blogs with less than 200 followers and notify them of their nomination.

4.  You must come up with 10 questions for your nominees to answer.

  • If someone told you right here, right now, you could fly anywhere in the world, but you had to go right now, would you? Where would you go?
  • What’s the best most recent meal you’ve either cooked at home or enjoyed at a restaurant?
  • Do you have a favorite food memory?
  • What are you most looking forward to in the fall?
  • Do you have a favorite quote?
  • Biggest fear?
  • If you could try out any job for a day, what would you like to try?
  • Favorite cocktail?
  • Favorite book?
  •  What does your perfect day look like?

Off to let these awesome bloggers know about this nomination and to enjoy the last week of summer, feeling more inspired than before!
