I have a culinary blog wish list of both techniques, classic dishes and a random spattering of recipes I’ve found. This banana oatmeal smoothie is one of them – a recipe I came across in the daily perusing of the internet – the pandora’s box that is food blogs coupled with “command t” (that’s open new tab to those not versed in the mindless surfing of the interwebs). (I currently have more than ten tabs open of various recipes and articles to get through and keep adding to them).
Anyway, I figured fruit smoothies would be a good addition to not only my repertoire but also my normal routine. Plus back home in New Jersey cooking (anything) keeps me sane and boy is that hard these days. While I initially was following a recipe, I made some tweaks to it and the beauty of this smoothie is anything goes. Substitute milk for yogurt or granola for oatmeal. Or add some peanut butter — though it helps if you actually have peanut butter. Also, the packet of instant oatmeal I used was maple, brown sugar flavored, which I was not a big fan of when combined with other flavors.
So – feel free to get creative but a basic recipe outline is as follows:
2 whole Chiquita Bananas
2 cups Ice
⅓ cup Yogurt
½ cup cooked oatmeal
⅓ cup almonds
Combine in blender. Add ice and blend.
