As a 24-year old, there are a few things in life I assumed were parts of one’s childhood (that I never did and thus am bitter about)*. A big assumption was that kids made rice krispies with their family while giggling and having sticky marshmallowy hands. It should be noted – we also never had the cereal and I just wanted to have the little things snap, crackle and pop in my mouth – is that too much to ask when you are 7?

(BTW, my brother doesn’t think kids made rice krispies at all. I intend to formulate a comprehensive poll for the general public and prove him wrong. Results TBD).

Long story short I decided enough was enough and this weekend I made rice krispies – nutella and original! The plain and the nutella are super easy! It’s the same mix but just adding nutella at the end.

Kellog’s Rice Krispies Treats Original Recipe

1 pkg. regular marshmallows or 3 cups miniature marshmallows

6 cups Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal

In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and continue to stir until the marshmallows have completely melted. Remove from heat.

Stir in the Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal coating them well with the melted marshmallow mixture. Using a buttered or silicone spatula, press the mixture evenly into a 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan which has been buttered or sprayed with non-stick spray or lined with wax paper.

Cut into squares when the mixture cools.

*I will be honest I attempted to make these pumpkin ones shaped as pumpkins but I am not that crafty sadly.
